Will keynote “Women and the Criminal Justice System” session on Friday

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Allen Superior Court Judge Wendy W. Davis will be among the speakers participating in this week’s meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors.

Davis will speak to the “Women Mayors of America’s Cities” group on the first day of the USCM’s annual meeting (Friday, June 24), which is taking place this year in Indianapolis. Her talk, entitled “Women and the Criminal Justice System,” will focus on the growth of the female prison population and the causes of that growth.

“The growth of the female prison population in the past 40 years has been explosive,” Davis said. “It speaks to underlying issues in society, including physical and sexual abuse and mental health concerns, which deserve our serious attention.”

In addition to speaking on the causes of female incarceration, Judge Davis will speak on the rates at which specific female demographic groups have entered the prison system. She will also share personal stories about her courtroom interaction with female defendants and attorneys.
